Tuesday, 8 October 2013

There was no doubting that Las Vegas would put on a show and last night’s Network Evening at the amazing Garden of the Gods in Caesar's Palace certainly meet with expectations.  This year’s forum has been a tremendous success, continuing the legacy of the past few years which has seen the World Routes event travel extensively from Beijing (2009) to Vancouver (2010) to Berlin (2011) to Abu Dhabi (2012) and then to the USA for the first time in its 19-year history.

As the event prepares to celebrate its 20th birthday in 2014, it will not be quite as far a journey as World Routes remains in the USA and moves easterly to the city of Chicago.  A formal handover event, as is traditional at Routes events, will take place at lunchtime today, while Chicago will be hosting a farewell reception this evening, starting from 17:30 in the networking village.

However, before we start to think about 2014 the work schedule is far from over in Las Vegas and there remains one full day of meetings.  The HUB on Friday will provide a full review of all the key stories from the event, including more interviews with some of the senior event delegates.  We will also have video and photographic content on our Facebook page which can be viewed here.  Make sure you ‘Like’ your favourites.

As this is the last of the four The HUB Daily publications from this year’s World Routes, I just want to thank all delegates that have attended the event and our regionals earlier this year and I look forward to seeing you all during the 2014 calendar when visits to San Salvador, El Salvador; Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia; Marseille, France and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe await ahead of the World event in Chicago, at the slightly earlier dates of September 20 – 23, 2014.

After Chicago in 2014, World Routes heads to Africa for the first time ever and the South African city of Durban, in the fast-developing KwaZulu-Natal region and senior delegations from both future hosts held talks yesterday in preparation for the events.

By comparison UPS leases a number of properties surrounding the airport totalling 3.6 million sq ft, incorporating its freight, credit union, store and supply chain solutions, but the new lease will significantly expand UPS’s presence at the airport... click here for more...

In the past, airports were perceived simply as gateways for the transportation of goods and people from one region or country to another, but this historic perception is now giving way to a much broader concept of the airport as a business destination in its own right and as an economic engine for its region and local communities.
